After six months of working at Permanent People, I have been asked a variety of questions about the recruitment industry and what it entails. I have addressed a few of the most frequently asked questions below:
What is the basis of recruitment?
The recruitment industry is all about building relationships. Whether that comes from speaking with new candidates and finding out what makes them tick, or developing relationships with a variety of clients nationally, building lasting relationships is integral to success.
Recruitment is a career that is both rewarding and varied – working closely with clients to really get a feel for what they are looking for in their next hire.
What happens day-to-day?
This can vary within each agency. The basic idea of recruitment is placing candidates into roles that match their requirements, satisfying both the candidate and client.
Each day, you will be responsible for placing job adverts, screening CVs and speaking to candidates to qualify them for roles. You will also be responsible for ‘business development’, speaking to new businesses to win vacancies for you to work on.
Many agencies offer on-going training – you will be taught how to ‘recruit’, and pick up the associated jargon by speaking with candidates and learning what your sector is really about.
What can recruitment offer me?
Recruitment can offer you an opportunity to thrive in a fast paced, target-orientated environment. Lucrative recruitment consultants can succeed in a competitive industry, using their ability to quickly establish and maintain rapport with both candidates and clients alike. It is the importance of business development that keeps the day-to-day job fresh and challenging.
If you are motivated by money, there are plenty of opportunities to make a healthy OTE in your first year and beyond. Many recruitment agencies offer competitive and rewarding commission structures that will encourage you to develop yourself.
