At the end of this week, my first in my new office, I received a call from a bloke trying to find out if I could help him out with his recruitment requirements.
Now on the face of it, this seems great, however as the business is very new and we haven’t advertised anywhere, it was very unlikely we’d been heard about for a company to just ring up out the blue like this.
Many of you will be aware of this, but it’s a trick that I thought agencies had long given up. Ringing up another agency and pretending to be a client to find out your rates etc. Its very obvious, even when done well and to be honest, I don’t know why they bother.
Why not concentrate on what you do and do it well.
It seems that there’s real insecurity amongst some recruiters and they seem to have a need to find out what other agencies are doing!
Now market research is important, in fact vital, but spying or trying to deceive rival agencies is dated and shows the quality of the company and the individual.
I put the phone down and laughed at this ridiculous situation but it also means that even though Permanent People have only just begun trading, we seem to have ruffled some feathers already and made some recruiters sit up and take notice, which is a massive compliment. So thank you whoever you are.
It also underlines why I started doing this and the reasons for setting the company up. So I could do things my way, ethically, honestly and with quality.
So let other agencies bad mouth and fall over each other. We’ll just do what we do, and do it well. PR
