12 years of Permanent People…where did the time go!
Today marks a milestone in the company’s history, as we celebrate our birthday (nearly a teenager 😊).
Back in 2013, I set the company up as a general permanent recruitment business with the aim of working across a few different sectors, basically to see where I could make placements.
Due to my previous role, which involved internal recruitment and dealing with Rec2Rec’s, I kept naturally moving back to this and found there was a demand for it out there.
Two weeks in, made my first placement, thought this is a piece of cake and we were off and running. 🚀
Little did I know that it would be another 2 months before I made my next one – a reality check.
The plan was to focus on South Wales and London, but I quickly realised that we were working in a candidate led market, so I reversed things to focus on finding great recruiters and take them to clients to build business that way.
This evolved to speaking with people who wanted to look for a new recruitment role in Amsterdam, Manchester, Bristol then places like Dubai, Australia, Singapore and the US. Making us a global business 🌍
At each stage, I had to learn about new markets, the differences, currencies, trends and where the demands where in terms of sectors.
There’s been many challenges along the way, especially Covid, when we gave up our office and moved to becoming a fully remote working business. It’s worked for us and as a service led business we believe that people should be treated the way we’d want to be.
And I’m really proud of all the people we’ve helped find new jobs and the relationships we’ve maintained and developed over the years. Each one has been a stepping stone and learning experience for me and the team here.
Speaking about people, we’ve had some great people in the business over the years, and our current team of Louise Reid, Gemma Hill Cert RP and Beth Long have the perfect balance of caring about what we do, whilst getting results.
We’ve built great relationships along the way and still have close ties with some great people in the industry – notably the likes of Aaeysha Shawket, Brad Thomas, Bill Holloway, Mark McLoughlin, George Yeadon, Sebastian Osborne, Jon Carey, Lisa Trapman, Matte Andrews, Paul Heard, Cian Pritchard amongst others, who we count as great friends of the business.
Starting my recruitment career at Draig Personnel, with Ross Porter, gave me a great grounding in recruitment and I learned so much there over the years.
Then moving on to New Directions working alongside, Howard Burge, Gary Williams, Kelly Storer and so many others, gave me insight into new industries and back-office structure.
I really don’t want to take over the world, I just want to run a business that makes the recruitment industry better whilst enjoying what we do and being true to our values.
Here’s to the next 12!
